Corneal transplantation

The cornea is the clear front part of the eye that allows light to enter the eye without any interference.  In some conditions the cornea may become cloudy or irregular and cause blindness.  Doing a corneal transplant and replacing the hazy cornea with a clear donor cornea can restore vision and function.

When a suitable donor cornea is found for a patient who needs this procedure we can proceed.   The surgery is usually done under general anaesthesia and the patient’s unhealthy cornea is removed and the healthy donor cornea is sutured in its place.  Rehabilitation of vision is dependant on how healthy the rest of the eye is.
